Prevent Gum Disease with the Revolutionary PerioChip®

periochip

Gum disease (periodontitis) is an infectious disease of the gums that causes destruction of the tissue and bone supporting the teeth. If the infection is left untreated, teeth loosen to the point where they may even fall out. After the age of 35, at least three out of every four adults develops gum disease in varying degrees. The primary cause of gum disease is an adhesive colorless layer called plaque, which accumulates constantly on the surface of the teeth. If the plaque is not removed, it hardens and turns into scale (calculus).

Stages of Development of Gum Disease

Gum disease is caused when bacteria in the plaque secrete toxins that cause infection and destruction of the gum tissues that support the teeth. When this occurs the gums separate from the tooth, creating a “gingival pocket” (a pocket in the gum). In time, more plaque and calculus accumulate in the gingival pocket, thus causing further destruction of the gum and a deepening of the pocket.

Symptoms of Gum Disease

stage of gum disease

Symptoms include:

  • Bleeding while cleaning the teeth
  • Red (or reddish) gums.
  • Swelling
  • Unpleasant odor from the mouth
  • Loosening of the teeth
  • Receding gums and exposure of the neck of the tooth

Please note that gum disease may sometimes be present without any symptoms. Unlike caries, with gum disease most people feel no pain. Hence regular check-ups in a dental clinic are of the utmost importance.

How to keep your teeth healthy

  • Brush with a soft brush twice a day.
  • Floss daily to clean the areas between the teeth.
  • Visit a dental clinic regularly for check-ups and cleaning.
  • Inform your dentist of any change in the condition of your gums

The Treatment of Gum Disease

The simplest and best preventative treatment is to brush the teeth and use dental floss regularly and daily.
The first step in the treatment of gum disease is to have calculus cleaned professionally by a periodontist, dentist or hygienist (scaling).
The aim of scaling is to remove the buildup of plaque and calculus from the surface of the teeth and smooth the roots to enable treatment of the pocket area.
Recently a growing number of dentists and hygienists have been adding a supplementary step in treatment with the chemical removal (killing) of bacteria in the pocket.

To this end the PerioChip®, an Israeli patented product, was invented.

What is the PerioChip®

The PerioChip® is a small chip designed to fit the dimensions of the gingival pocket of the mouth. It contains a substance, which is effective in killing bacteria in the gum. After scaling, the PerioChip® is inserted into the pocket, the active ingredient takes effect over a period of approximately a week, kills the bacteria, and the chip itself dissolves naturally. There is no need for an additional visit to the dentist to remove the chip, but a follow-up visit after three months is recommended to check whether any further treatment is required.

Advantages of the PerioChip®

The PerioChip® produces better results in scaling, helps retard the development of disease and also helps heal the pocket.

The PerioChip® is easily inserted into the pocket.
Once inserted, it remains in place and does not have to be removed.
It is completely safe to use.
The active ingredient is released gradually, removing bacteria over a period of one week, and remains effective for three months. The chip dissolves by itself and no return visit is necessary to remove it.
Following treatment you may eat and drink as usual.
You may clean your teeth as usual, but avoid using dental floss in the area of the chip for 10 days.
