Dental Treatment

We offer a number of dental treatments:

White fillings

Dental Treatment

Different types of fillings

Old amalgam (grey/black) fillings can now be replaced with co lour matched mercury free white fillings. Modern, tooth-colored fillings made of durable resin or porcelain can be bonded to your teeth for a stronger, more natural-looking effect.

They are placed using special adhesives that increase the strength of the heavily filled tooth and eliminate sensitivity - they are virtually undetectable and easy to apply.

Gum Disease

periochipGum disease is caused when bacteria in the plaque secrete toxins that cause infection and destruction of the gum tissues that support the teeth. You can prevent gum disease by:

  • Keeping Your Teeth Healthy
  • Brush with a soft brush twice a day.
  • Floss daily to clean the areas between the teeth.
  • Visit a dental clinic regularly for check-ups and cleaning.
  • Inform your dentist of any change in the condition of your gums

Tooth veneers

Tooth veneers are thin layers of porcelain that clad the surface of the tooth, hiding imperfections such as chips and protecting them from wear. Veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns and can improve your smile by hiding chips, masking stains and correcting misalignment. Veneers look incredibly natural, are long-lasting and easy to apply.

Crowns

crownsCrowns, also called caps, are natural-looking covers made of metal or porcelain that are designed to conceal cracked, badly discolored, injured, or chipped teeth. They can be matched to your natural tooth co lour making them indistinguishable from your other teeth.

Why Crowns and not veneers? | Crowns cover more of the tooth than veneers and can be placed on natural teeth or dental implants.

Bridges

A bridge is a false tooth, natural in appearance that replaces one or more missing teeth thus "bridging" the space between the two teeth. Fixed Bridges are usually fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth and cannot be taken out of your mouth, unlike dentures. They can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech.

Sometimes, the bridge is glued to the backs of the teeth instead of putting a crown over the entire tooth. This is known as a 'Maryland Bridge'.

Root Canal Therapy

Each of our teeth contains a long, thin strand of dental pulp which is filled with a network of nerves and tissue. If the nerve dies and decays, the teeth can get infected resulting in abscesses and a great deal of pain and discomfort. To prevent this, the dentist drills a gap into the tooth's crown and pulp chamber, cleans out the infected pulp and permanently seals the tooth with a crown. The procedure can save teeth from eventually being lost or having to be removed and is often permanent.

Inlays / Onlays

A porcelain or resin inlay or onlay is used when the cavity is too big for a filling, but isn't so big that a crown is required. An inlay is a subtle tooth-colored restoration which can fill large cavities and repair damaged teeth and is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. Onlays (also known as overlays) will overlay one or more cusps in order to protect and strengthen the tooth.

Full or Partial Dentures

Dentures can help take the place of missing natural teeth. They are made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Wearing dentures will allow a patient to chew and speak more easily while improving appearance and often boosting self-confidence.

Full dentures are used when all of a patients' teeth need to be replaced while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by a few missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Dentures can help you look and feel your best.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth usually don't come through the gums until you are a teenager or in your twenties and are usually the last teeth to come into your mouth.

An impacted tooth

When there is not enough room for them to come easily through the gums or they attempt to come in sideways, they are said to become 'impacted'. Some impacted wisdom teeth remain buried and cause no trouble, however, other impacted wisdom teeth may cause severe problems.

If one or more of your wisdom teeth causes problems, we may recommend that it be removed so that pain, infection or other problems do not get worse.

Oral Cancer screening

Dental examinations play an important role in screening and diagnosing oral cancer. The vast majority of these oral cancer screening examinations are quite painless and can be usually performed quickly.

In most cases, the disease will strike people over the age of 40, and like many other cancers, early detection can improve the chances of successful treatment.

Sport mouthguards

A well-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injury while allowing you to breathe easily and providing maximum comfort. If you play a contact sport like rugby, you can't afford not to wear one.
